Joey Cejudo - West Coast Kicking Academy Hall Of Fame

L.A. Kiss
Youngstown State University
Mt SAC/Chaffey Junior College
Chino Hills High School

Joey is a true success story!  We first met when his dad, Rick (one of the best dad's we've come across) brought his older brother Eric (who was a tremendous kicker at Chino Hills HS himself), to WCKA for training.  As younger brothers often do and never wanting his older brother to outdo him, Joey worked tirelessly on his technique and mental approach.  Eric was a tremendous role model for his younger brother. Unfortunately for Joey, his growing body did not always cooperate initially.  His will to perservere and overcome the obstacles in front of him are what truly set Joey apart.  Instead of quitting or settling for being mediocre, Joey continued to refine his ability during our 6+ years of weekly training sessions.

As Joey matured and grew (currently 6'4") his hours spent perfecting technique and timing began to pay off.  His Senior season at Chino Hills, he was 1st team All-League and 3rd Team All-County, never missing a kick and consistently pounding kickoffs into the endzone.  He wasn't satisfied though.  Joey trained as if he had something to prove, experiences yet to uncover.  As a developing kicker and punter, he moved onto have a very successful 2 years in Junior College and earned a scholarship to Youngstown State, where he excelled!

While at Youngstown St, Joey was the model of consistency connecting on 20-25 FG attempts including a 46 yard Game Winner.  He had a 40 yard punt average with a school record 69 yarder.  Joey received National Award recognition to go along with 3x Conference Player of the Week Awards, becoming one of the best combo guys in the country.

Joey is a perfect example of how hard work early in your career and focusing on what matters most (Technique) will pay off in the long run.  Joey was mature enough to learn from his bad days while striving to get better on good days.  Always humble, coachable and appreciative of the opportunities in front of him, Joey made his mark of the field by never giving up.

Joey is currently the Kicker for the L.A. Kiss of the Arena Football League.

Cejudo Advice

The best advice I could give is to never give up because there are going to be days that you want to quit kicking because you feel like you are not improving. The more you train and stay with it the future is bright. Patience is key when it comes to kicking. It will all fall together when the time is right. Trust the technique you are taught and the rest will follow.
